Shaft Flex Chart by Swing Speed

Compare golf shaft flex ranges using driver or 7-iron swing speed. Overlapping ranges show when two flex categories deserve a trial; shaft labels and profiles vary across manufacturers.

How to use this tool

  1. Select driver or 7-iron as the speed source and enter a measured speed when available.
  2. Compare every flex range shown at your speed, including overlaps near a boundary.
  3. Use contact, flight, tempo and shaft weight to compare actual models during a fitting.

How we calculate

The chart uses overlapping driver or 7-iron speed intervals. Where two intervals overlap, show both options rather than inventing a precise universal cutoff.

Worked example

At 92 mph driver speed, both Regular (80–95) and Stiff (90–110) appear. That overlap is useful: compare timing, contact and flight in actual trials.

ADriver 70–85 mph
RDriver 80–95 mph
SDriver 90–110 mph
XDriver 105 mph and above

Limits and common mistakes

Flex letters are not standardized across manufacturers or models. Tempo, shaft weight, bend profile and strike all matter.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I see two flex options?

The reference intervals deliberately overlap. A boundary is a reason to compare, not a reason to force a single letter.

Can I use 7-iron speed?

Yes. Select the 7-iron source so its own chart applies.

Can distance replace measured speed?

It can provide a wider estimate, but launch and strike affect distance. A monitor measurement is preferable.

Is Stiff the same across brands?

No. Compare actual models and profiles rather than assuming the label defines a universal stiffness.

Will a different flex fix my swing?

It can change feel and delivery, but this chart does not diagnose or correct swing mechanics.
