Personal-use estimate. This tool does not issue an official handicap and cannot certify eligibility for a competition. Obtain your official handicap through your national association or affiliated club.
How to use this tool
- Enter each eligible adjusted score and its tee ratings, using the published PCC when available.
- Identify whether you have a complete record or a sample, and review which differentials are selected.
- Use the separate course calculator when you need strokes for a particular set of tees.
How we calculate
For an 18-hole round, the score differential is (113 ÷ Slope Rating) × (adjusted gross score − Course Rating − PCC). Round each differential to one decimal, select from the most recent 20 eligible records, then apply the short-history table.
Worked example
An adjusted score of 85, Course Rating 72.4, slope 130 and PCC 0 gives 10.9523… → 11.0. With three eligible differentials of 11.0, 12.5 and 14.0, the base estimate is 11.0 − 2.0 = 9.0.

Limits and common mistakes
This base estimate does not reconstruct exceptional-score reductions, soft or hard caps, or committee decisions. A sample is not a complete handicap record.

Frequently asked questions
Is this an official Handicap Index?
No. It is a transparent base estimate. Use your authorized handicap service for your official record.
Which scores should I enter?
Enter eligible adjusted scores in chronological order, newest first. Confirm whether this is a complete record or an illustrative sample.
Why is an adjusted score different from my total?
Handicap posting can limit a hole score. Use the adjusted score supplied by your official record rather than assuming every gross total is eligible.
What happens when I enter more than 20 scores?
The engine takes the most recent 20 eligible records before selecting the lowest differentials.
Can I include a nine-hole round?
A pending nine is not a complete 18-hole differential. Import its published equivalent when available; do not count both versions.
