Golf Handicap Calculator for 3 Rounds

Looking for a handicap after three rounds? For three eligible 18-hole differentials, the base calculation uses the lowest differential minus 2.0. It does not average three gross scores.

Enter a complete first three-round record

Use three full 18-hole rounds for an initial record, or a complete three-entry equivalent record for an established player.

Choose a profile for association-specific nine-hole guidance. The arithmetic method is explicitly named in each result.

Enter an adjusted gross score. For an established golfer, a par-4 hole receiving one course-handicap stroke has a net-double-bogey maximum of 7. Playing allowance does not set this maximum.

Enter your values or load the clearly labeled example to begin.

Keep your scoring record

Personal-use estimate. This tool does not issue an official handicap and cannot certify eligibility for a competition. Obtain your official handicap through your national association or affiliated club.

How to use this tool

  1. Enter your three complete 18-hole rounds with their individual Course and Slope Ratings.
  2. Check that each entry represents eligible adjusted scoring, rather than just a total against par.
  3. Review the lowest rounded differential, the short-history adjustment and the limits of a three-round sample.

How we calculate

For exactly three eligible 18-hole differentials, select the lowest and subtract 2.0. Calculate and round each differential before selecting it.

Worked example

Differentials 12.4, 15.2 and 16.1 produce 12.4 − 2.0 = 10.4. This is a short-history base calculation, not the average of all three rounds.

Limits and common mistakes

Three complete 18-hole rounds provide 54 holes. Three partial rounds do not. A short sample from a longer record cannot represent the current complete record.

Frequently asked questions

Do you average my three scores?

No. The three-score table selects the lowest differential and subtracts two.

Why not just subtract par from my score?

Course Rating and Slope Rating describe difficulty; par alone is not the differential formula.

Are three rounds enough for a reliable forecast?

The estimate can move substantially as scores accumulate. It is not a forecast of your next score.

Can I use my best three rounds?

Only call the result complete when those are the complete eligible record. Otherwise mark it as a sample.

What if one of my rounds is nine holes?

Use the nine-hole guide and a valid published conversion; do not pretend it is an 18-hole round.
