9-Hole Handicap Calculator and Score Guide

A nine-hole handicap calculation starts with the rating for the nine you played. Use this page to find the nine-hole component and understand which published conversion your scoring record still needs.

Calculate a nine-hole component

This page calculates a partial nine-hole value and can analyze a final official 18-hole equivalent. A raw nine alone does not produce an index.

Choose a profile for association-specific nine-hole guidance. The arithmetic method is explicitly named in each result.

Enter an adjusted gross score. For an established golfer, a par-4 hole receiving one course-handicap stroke has a net-double-bogey maximum of 7. Playing allowance does not set this maximum.

Enter your values or load the clearly labeled example to begin.

How to use this tool

  1. Select the region and enter the adjusted nine-hole score and nine-hole ratings.
  2. Review the component and the explanation of official expected-score or combined-score processing.
  3. Replace a pending component with its published final equivalent when your authorized service provides it.

How we calculate

A nine-hole component uses (113 ÷ nine-hole slope) × (adjusted nine-hole score − nine-hole Course Rating − half the 18-hole PCC). It is a component, not a finished 18-hole differential.

Worked example

With 45 strokes, nine-hole rating 36, slope 113 and PCC 0, the component is 9.0. It must not be doubled to 18.0 or substituted for an official converted differential.

Limits and common mistakes

Use ratings for the nine actually played. Different regions handle nine-hole completion differently; this tool does not invent an expected score.

Frequently asked questions

Why can’t I double my nine-hole score?

The second nine is not necessarily equivalent. The applicable system may add an official expected-score component.

Which Course Rating should I use?

The rating published for your selected nine and tees, not the full-course rating divided by two.

Can three nines establish the same record as three 18s?

No. Three nines are 27 holes; the initial-history requirements must still be met.

How do I enter a converted round?

Use the final differential from your authorized service and identify the source entry it replaces.

Does Australia use the same conversion?

No. Use the published Australian combined record where applicable; this tool does not automatically pair unrelated nines.
